Head of the Payment and Securities Clearing and Settlement Division & Recruitment

Matthias Schmudde is Head of the Payment and Securities Clearing and Settlement Division at the Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt. He is a member of the MIPC (Market Infrastructure and Payments Committee) and responsible for cashless payment and securities clearing strategy, policy issues and oversight.

Matthias Schmudde is in particular involved in Eurosystem related initiatives such as Instant Payments and the Vision 2020 for market infrastructures. Previously he focused on developing and improving the Bundesbank`s own payment and accounting systems.

Before joining the Bundesbank in 1997, Matthias Schmudde obtained a master’s degree in business administration and completed an apprenticeship in banking.

Elie Beyrouthy is the Vice President, European Government Affairs

Elie Beyrouthy is Vice President of European Government Affairs at American Express since June 2017 where he leads the company’s engagement with European Union Institutions and advises senior leaders on EU regulatory and public policy matters. Elie also represents American Express’ interests in several EU trade bodies and professional associations.

Prior to joining American Express, Elie was Director of International Regulatory Affairs at Western Union for 5 years. From 2007 to 2012, Elie held leadership positions at the World Savings Banks Institute and the European Banking Federation.

Elie began his career as an intern at the European Commission and the United States Federal District Court of Minnesota. He holds two Masters Degrees in Law from the University of Minnesota and from the Jean Moulin University in Lyon – France. Elie also holds a diploma from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Lyon – France

Roland Marko is a member of the IP & IT team. He specialises in information technology law

(IT-outsourcing, cloud computing, e-commerce, licenses etc.), data protection and data security law, intellectual property law (including litigation) and unfair competition law.

He is the author of numerous articles on IP/IT law and a frequent lecturer at Austrian universities. After having completed his legal studies, Roland obtained an LL.M. degree from the University of Vienna and he also has an Academic Media Expert certificate from the University of Graz

Andrea Gritsch has a wide range of expertise in the financial industry.

She handles large-scale mandates spanning multiple jurisdictions and provides full coverage in key legal areas including M&A, banking and financial services, finance, regulatory compliance, corporate and financial restructuring.

Her clients include credit and financial institutions, insurance undertakings, corporates, corporate and financial investors, private equity and venture capital.

For many years, Andrea has been active in the fast evolving area of financial technology (FinTech), assisting regulated and non-regulated businesses in digital transformation and taking up new technologies.

Javier Santamaría has been a member of the EPC since its creation in 2002. He Chairs the Board since June 2012. As an independent, self- employed professional.

Mr Santamaría has accumulated broad and balanced expertise in the intertwined dimensions of payments business-related, operational, technical – across different client segments and product lines, in the legacy and the innovative spheres.

He has been immersed in both cooperative and competitive environments. Besides payments, he is interested in other banking fields and continues to be actively engaged in academic matters.
